Lincoln Police hope surveillance video will help them track down two people responsible for stealing a car and crashing it through a Subway restaurant during an early morning burglary March 20.

Police said a man and his wife woke up around 1:40 a.m. as the thieves stole their silver Toyota Matrix from their locked garage.

"Today was the first time I've actually seen the incident on tape... My insurance agent said.. they have never had anything happen like this to their knowledge in the 20 years they've been in business," said the victim.

Police say about 20 minutes later, the stolen car was used to ram into the front entry of the Subway near 84th and Highway 2. The impact caused the garbage can behind the register to get flung into the back room.

Surveillance video shows the driver and passenger getting out of the car to steal the safe containing only a small amount cash. Damage to the building is estimated at $10,000.

"It's just such a stupid crime for the amount of money they took from subway... I hope that they catch them... have some jail time for that," said the victim.

One suspect is between 5'8" to 6' tall, the other 5'10" to 6'. Call Crimestoppers at 402-475-3600 with any information.
