Lincoln Police are on the lookout for a group of people who are stealing catalytic converters from cars.

Police said 31 catalytic converters were ripped off from vehicles in 2012.

There have already been 18 cases this year including one Wednesday; an eye witness noticed someone under his SUV with a portable saw trying to take his catalytic converter. The man got away.

Police warned muffler shops about the crime trend.

The converters are selling from $5 - $100 depending on the amount of precious metals in the catalytic converters.
