Around 15 cattle are dead after a semi crash Tuesday afternoon south of Grand Island.

According to the Nebraska State Patrol, a man was driving south on South Locust Street when he crossed the northbound lanes, and his semi flipped into the Platte River.

The clean-up continued into Tuesday evening.

"The cattle that are injured or died on scene will be processed, usually through a rending-type plant, and the other cattle right now are being rounded up by local ranchers in the area," said Sgt. Jeff Roby.

About 15 cattle needed to be rounded up.

The driver of the semi was uninjured, but was still looking for a Jack Russell terrier that had been in his cab as of Tuesday night.

The investigation into how the crash occurred continues.
