A major water main break that's resulted in the closure of a section of N.27th street has The Center for People in Need cancelling its food distribution for today.
Food distribution typically begins at 2:00 p.m. on Fridays, but Executive Director, Beatty Brasch is asking families not to come in.
Brasch says the road closure of northbound N.27th street from Cornhusker to Superior is making it difficult for people to access the center, which is located at 3901 N. 27th Street.
Brasch, says it's not only the food service program that's been effected. "The water main break has had a tremendous impact on us. Every day we have about 80-90 participants who show up to do community service at the agency, they help us with job training, cleaning, ESL and other services. We had to send them home because there's no water," said Brasch.
Brasch says the center hopes to resume services as usual next week. In the meantime, families who depend on food distribution are encouraged to call the center at (402)476-4357 to make other arrangements.
