The city of Lincoln has announced seven sites to drop off Christmas trees for recycling through Jan. 8.

The tree collection sites are Ballard Park, Oak Lake Park, University Place Park, Holmes Lake Park, Tierra Park, Woods Park and at Hofeling Enterprises.

Hofeling Enterprises has donated grinding services, and the tree mulch will be distributed free to Lincoln residents beginning Jan. 9. The mulch will be available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at 2200 S. Folsom Court on a first-come, first-served basis.

Lincoln began its tree recycling program in 1987 to keep large quantities of trees from going to the landfill. In the last 24 years, the city has recycled an estimated 196,645 trees.
