The City of Lincoln is asking residents who live near recently planted street trees to help water them.
The recent heat and the lack of rain can harm trees planted over the past few years.
City Parks and Recreation Director Lynn Johnson says supplemental water is essential to the establishment of young street trees.
He says the city hopes residents will adopt recently planted street trees and provide them with water weekly during the first few growing seasons.
The young trees need about 10 gallons of water each week.
