Co-Op Employee Dead After Anhydrous Ammonia Explosion

A Midwest Farmer's Co-Op employee is dead after an explosion at a Tecumseh grain elevator.

The man killed has been identified as John E. Bennet of Greenwood, Nebraska.

Just after six Thursday night, the Johnson County Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call at the grain elevator. They say anhydrous ammonia exploded at the Tecumseh branch of the Midwest Farmer's Co-Op grain elevator.

According to the Johnson County Sheriff's Office, Tecumseh Fire and Rescue took two men to the Johnson County Hospital. Both men were Co-Op employees.

Deputies say a 63-year-old man John Bennett, of Greenwood, died at the Johnson County Hospital at 10:45 PM.

Deputies say two other people were also treated at the Johnson County Hospital for non-life threatening injuries or exposure to anhydrous ammonia, including a Johnson County Sheriff's Deputy.
