Not even a year after it's renovation - that isn't even finished - the Bob Devaney Sports Center plays host to a national tournament.
Last year at this time, the NCAA Volleyball tournament was played in Lincoln, but at The Coliseum. This year it's being played at 'The Bob' and the basketball-turned-volleyball venue is impressing its newest visitors.
For Miami Hurricanes head coach Keno Gandera, playing in a bigger arena isn't anything new for an ACC team. For Alija Pittenger and her Fairfield Stags, more fans were in attendance for one game than the combined attendance for the Stags' season.
"It's a beautiful volleyball venue," Gandera said.
While the size isn't anything new, it's the unfamiliar territory that needs preparing for.
"We come for practice sessions like this morning and last night," said Gandera. "Part of the deal is getting acquainted with the facilities and the looks and the angles and all that."
For Pittenger, it's an entirely different story.
"I haven't coached in an arena this size," said Pittenger, a former Michigan Wolverines volleyball player. "But if you gotta play out in the parking lot I'll think any team will take that, but it is great to be in such a fantastic facility and especially all the great renovations that they've done."
Pittenger said playing in front of such a large crowd will be a new experience for her team.
"Having the bleachers so close and the fans right there, I think they'll definitely have an impact on the game," Pittenger said. "I think the environment is one of the things you can't prepare for because it's so unique."
