Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has endorsed Nebraska's Republican U.S. Senate candidate Deb Fischer.
Rice was Secretary of State under President George W. Bush. She is now a political science professor at Stanford University.
Fischer, a state lawmaker from Valentine, announced Rice's endorsement on Saturday, just three days before Election Day. Fischer is in a tight race with Democrat Bob Kerrey, a former Nebraska governor and two-term U.S. Senator, to replace outgoing Sen. Ben Nelson.
In a statement, Rice called Fischer an effective legislator "who will promote economic competitiveness and private sector growth and will change the current standstill in Washington."
