Convicted Murderer on Trial for Killing Inmate

A convicted murderer is back on trial after a run in with another inmate turns deadly.

Mohamed Abdulkadir is charged with first degree murder in the death of Michael Grandon.

Both men were convicted murders and while serving time together at the Nebraska State Penitentiary, they had a fatal confrontation.

In testimony Tuesday, witnesses say Abdulkadir went to Grandon's cell to get back items he claimed had been stolen, among them a tv, sweatpants and jeans.

A witness told jurors he saw Abdulkadir stab Grandon twice with an improvised weapon.

They described numerous cuts to Grandon's hands and face and massive blood loss from the stab wounds.

Grandon later died from those wounds.

Another witness said Abdulkadir told her about the murder and said if he had to do it again, he would.

Abdulkadir is currently serving 25 to 50 years for aiding and abetting second degree murder in Grand Island dating back to 2009.

Grandon had been convicted of two 2007 murders in North Platte.
