SUTHERLAND, Neb. -- A 34-year old Sutherland woman was killed Friday after her car lost control and hit two trees.
Janel Godfrey was reported as seriously injured in the crash and was transported to Great Plains Health for treatment. At 10:38 p.m. Friday, Godfrey died from her injuries while being treated at the hospital.
The Sheriff's Department said the accident was reported at the intersection of Pioneer Trace and U.S. Highway 30.
An Accident Reconstructionist with the Sheriff's Office determined Godfrey's 1993 Toyota Camry was speeding north on Pioneer Trace Road.
The car went over the Union Pacific Railroad crossing, causing the car to be airborn. The car hit the surface and Godfrey slid northwest through the intersection hitting two trees, coming to a rest on the second one.
Godfrey was not using her seatbelt, and the Sheriff's Department says alcohol is a factor.
