Construction crews are almost done tearing out the old swimming pool in Aurora.
The $3.5 million project involves demolishing the old pool and building a new one in the same area.
City officials think diving boards, new slides, and water features will drive attendance up this coming summer.
Public Works Director Rick Melcher says they're happy that if construction stays on schedule, the pool shouldn't miss a season.
"Fortunately this project happened to fall in a time where we could operate the old one and with this one being on a new location just adjacent to the old structure, we were able to keep the old one open and start the new one hopefully on time next year," says Melcher.
The pool project is being paid for with money from a sales tax and from city funding, and should be finished by May.
"It's going to be a good improvement for the city and we've had lots of community involvement, so there's a lot of people that had some input and i think when the project is completed it's going to be a huge success for Aurora," says Melcher.
