An early morning fire in a rail yard fills a western Lincoln neighborhood with smoke.

Just after midnight Tuesday, Lincoln Fire and Rescue responded to the Burlington Northern Santa Fe rail yard near West O Street on reports of a fire.

BNSF officials confirm a railcar carrying bales of recycled paper had somehow ignited.

Smoke from the fire could be seen for miles and light winds left it lingering in the area for hours.

Fire crews spent several hours working to extinguish the fire.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
