The Lincoln Police Department gave people the chance to turn in their unwanted guns and ammunition with no questions asked.
May 10, 2014 was LPD's third Gun Amnesty Day. 34 firearms, 22 long guns and 12 handguns were turned in along with 6,000 to 8,000 rounds of ammunition.
The total collected for all three Gun Amnesty Days is 102 firearms, 66 long guns and 36 handguns along with 20,000 to 24,000 rounds of ammunition.
The collection also includes one 60 mm mortar round and one 20 mm cannon round.
The guns are destroyed after they are collected. Officer Shane Winterbauer says having the guns turned in helps to make Lincoln streets a little safer.
LPD plans to do another Gun Amnesty day in the fall.
