DeWitt Man Arrested After Shooting Investigation

A DeWitt man is facing charges after officials say he shot another man.

Saline County Sheriff's deputies arrested 25-year-old Zachary Grummert for first degree assault and use of a weapon to commit a felony.

Just before 1:30 Wednesday morning, deputies responded to a 911 call about a man who has been shot in DeWitt. The Wilber Police Department, Gage County Sheriff's Office and the Nebraska State Patrol were also called to the scene.

They say 28-year-old Joshua Voorhees was taken to the Beatrice hospital with a gunshot wound to his chest. He was later transferred to Bryan West Campus in Lincoln.

Deputies have not said what lead up to the shooting. The investigation is ongoing.
