Deputies Arrest Two for Copper Theft at LES Substation

Two Lincoln residents are in jail after deputies caught them in the act trying to steal copper wire.

According to the Lancaster County Sheriff's Sergeant Tommy Trotter, about 11:30 p.m. Monday, an alarm monitoring company called to report activity at the Lincoln Electric System substation near 134th and Adams.

When deputies arrived they found a hole cut in the chain link fence and more than 60 feet of copper wire nearby.

Deputies arrested 31-year-old Thomas Stefkovich and 23-year-old Christal Hiles were arrested at the scene for felony theft and cited on numerous other charges.

Damages are estimated at $500 and loss at $600.
