A dog is shot in the capital city for the second time within a week.
Officers responded to 2121 North 28th just after 11:00 Sunday morning on reports of shots fired.
Turns out two dogs had been fighting in their cage - a German shepherd and a pit bull.
A neighbor heard the fight and tried to separate the dogs, but ended up having to shoot the pit bull to save the shepherd.
Officers say they have not cited the neighbor for firing the gun in city limits, saying "Our investigation leads us to believe that the neighbor was acting in a humane manner to try to save the life of the German shepherd that was basically in the jaws of the pit bull and so that's why we haven't issued any citations."
The incident has been passed on to the city attorney, who will decide if the situation warrants any citations.
Officers on the scene say it appeared the shepherd's ear was badly damaged.
The dog was taken to a vet for treatment.
