More than 3,000 Fifth Graders within LPS Elementary Schools packed Lincoln's Haymarket Park for the Saltdogs game against Sioux City.

In addition to watching the game students were able to participate in contests between innings.

Teachers say watching today's game also provided educational value to the students in attendance.

"The different scores and we talk about the distance a ball would go. we talk about what an inning is and the vocabulary along that line. they're all sorts of activities that they can do and some that we've already done at school to get them prepared," said Teacher Molly Trumble.

Trumble also talked about how baseball is a game of numbers and statistics. Kids were kept busy adding up all the runs the Saltdogs piled up.
