John Ewing has won the Democratic nomination for Nebraska's 2nd Congressional District, defeating Gwen Howard.
Ewing is the Douglas County treasurer and a former Omaha police officer who entered the race last summer, saying he wanted to work to cut spending to reduce the national deficit.
Howard is a social worker who is wrapping up her second term in the Nebraska Legislature. Term limits kept her from seeking a third term.
Ewing goes on to face the winner of the GOP primary in the November general election.
