Fairbury Police say a 12-year-old boy is facing a felony charge after he reportedly hit a Chihuahua with an ax several times.
On April 22, officers were called to a Fairbury home after the boy's family reported the incident. Family members told police that the dog had been chained up in the back yard earlier that day. When the officer arrived the dog had already been taken to a vet.
According to police reports, the dog had several lacerations on the head and the left side of the dog's jaw was shattered.
Police say the boy's sweater was found with the bloody ax. The boy told the officer that the dog chased him and tried biting him.
The boy faces a felony animal cruelty/neglect charge.
