An 88-year-old Palmyra farmer was killed in a grass fire rural Otoe County.

Otoe County Attorney David Partsch, said Palmyra and Bennet fire and rescue were dispatched to at 236 F Road, for a grass fire, at 3:30 p.m.

Responding crews discovered the body of Paul Lansing.

"He was possibly burning some items in a barrel and the fire must have jumped from the barrel because there was a lot of grass fire in the area and he was caught up in that," said Partsch.

Partsch said it appears that Lansing attempted to stomp out the grass fire.
