Bishop Neumann Student Remembered

The Wahoo community is in mourning at the death of 16-year-old Bethany Kavan, who died in an automobile accident earlier this week.

The Saunders County Sheriff's Department says that the two vehicle fatality accident occurred on December 28, 2011 around 10 am.
Kavan's 2009 Pontiac was southbound on County Road 20 when it was struck broadside by a westbound 2006 Chevy pickup at the Intersection of County Road L and 20, which is located 2 miles West of Wahoo.

Kavan was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup was 19-year-old Alyssa Stanek of Ceresco. Stanek was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. There were no passengers in either vehicle.

Kavan was not wearing a seatbelt. Stanek was wearing a seatbelt. It is not believed that alcohol or drugs contributed to the accident.

Kavan's softball coach, David Brabec, remembered her: "She was a go-happy kid. She always had a smile on her face, always willing to help a person out...just a really friendly kid, you know, and her smile, her smile was so wonderful. She could brighten someone's day just by seeing her, you know, walking around and smiling. She was a great kid."
