Final Beam Raised at the Arena

Updated: Thu 4:54 AM, Dec 13, 2012

December 12th, 2012 was a milestone for the Pinnacle Bank Arena and for the city of Lincoln. The final beam was hoisted into the air in a symbolic ceremony. Everyone involved with the arena project including officials, construction workers, Husker cheerleaders and band members gathered inside for a ceremony.

Governor Dave Heineman, Lincoln Mayor Chris Beutler and Nebraska Athletic Director Tom Osborne all spoke Wednesday.

Thanks to Bill Luxford and 5CityTV for the video from the beam itself.

The final beam was hoisted into the air along with an evergreen tree trimmed with Christmas lights and an American flag. That beam was signed by more than three thousand people.

The topping-out ceremony is a construction tradition. The final beam is placed at the building's highest point. Now work on the arena will continue under a roof and indoors.

And although we don't know what the first concerts will be, we do know the dates of the first shows...September 13th, September 19th and November 9th, according to our friends over at Pershing.
