Final Four Candidates for Hastings Police Chief Announced
The City of Hastings has announced its list of finalists for the position of Hastings Police Department Chief.
The final four are: Captain Gene Boner and Captain Adam Story, both of the Hastings Police Department, Captain Peter Kortum of the Grand Island Police Department, and Chief B.J. Wilkinson of the Litchfield, Illinois Police Department.
"Those 4 will get personal interviews," said Hastings City Administrator Joe Patterson.
In Grand Island's recent competition for a new city fire chief, local internal candidate Cory Schmidt emerged triumphant. Hastings City Administrator Joe Patterson says internal and external candidates will be on the same footing.
"We have an obligation to hire the very best candidate, and if they're 25 miles north so be it, you know, if they're 500 miles east, so be it, or if they're right here in town, so be it," Patterson said.
Patterson says they'll be pleased if the new chief can maintain the status quo.
"We want to make sure we're dealing with any possible gang activity, drug activity, that sort of thing. Hastings has been a very safe community to live in," Patterson commented.
