A long-standing Lincoln tradition is entering its final year. Thousands visited Lincoln Race Course over Mother's Day weekend.
Fans will have to place their bets elsewhere next year. The Lincoln track that's hosted live horse racing for decades will close for good this summer in order to make way for U-N-L's new research park.
But there may be a reprieve for race enthusiasts in the form of a new track. It's slated to be located near Highway 77 and Denton Road.
Though live racing will end at Lincoln Race Course in July, simulcast racing will continue at the site for at least another year.
