Fires Keep Some Federal Land In NW Nebraska Closed

Much of the federal forest land in northwest Nebraska remains closed because of safety concerns after the recent wildfires.

The U.S. Forest Service has ordered much of the land in the Pine Ridge Ranger District to remain closed because of safety concerns. So trails, roads and campgrounds in the area are off limits.

Fire management officer Weston Burch says even though wildfires in the area have been contained, there still could be hot spots and smoke within the burned area.

Anyone who wants to visit the area should check with the local Forest Service office or visit www.fs.fed.us/r2/nebraska for more information.
