GRAND ISLAND (AP) -- A former Hall County corrections officer is the subject of a criminal investigation, accused of having sexual contact with an inmate.
The Grand Island Independent reports (http://bit.ly/1rPFyjm) that a female guard who began working at the Hall County Jail in June was fired Monday. Hall County clerk's office records show she had been on administrative leave prior to Monday.
Nebraska State Patrol Lt. Dennis Leonard says a criminal investigation is underway.
Hall County Jail Director Fred Ruiz declined to comment.
Federal and state laws bar police officers or jail guards from having sex with anyone under arrest or in custody. Nebraska's law says consent cannot be used as a defense.
