The recall effort against Grand Island Mayor Jay Vavricek is on hold.
Jeb Wolsleben says his petition site at the G.I. library will be closed through Friday after the sudden death of his father.
"The recall effort is important but family is more important at this time," he said in a statement Monday.
Wolsleben said he's collected about 1,400 signatures so far.
More than 3,200 signatures are needed to force a recall election.
The petition will be available at the library again starting at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
