A Wednesday morning water main break left a lot of mud, ice, and standing water in the Dodge and Oak Street area of Grand Island.
GI Utilities Director Tim Luchsinger says the break was possibly caused by the cold weather. He says low temperatures can cause shifts in the ground that break lines.
Up to 50 customers were without service while crews searched for the break location.
Luchsinger says those are older neighborhoods and the streets sometimes don't drain very well which meant the water caught in the gutters and flower up in the sidewalk in some places.
Luchsinger expects all customers to have water restored by Wednesday afternoon.
