LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Lincoln Community Foundation announced that Give To Lincoln Day returns for a third year on Thursday, May 29. The foundation encourages all Lincoln and Lancaster County residents to make a charitable donation to local nonprofits during this 24-hour day of giving.
The Lincoln Community Foundation and participating sponsors have increased the incentive for gifts made during Give To Lincoln Day. Every nonprofit organization will receive a proportional share of a $300,000 Challenge Match Fund, based upon its percentage of total dollars raised on May 29. The match fund increases every donation made on Give To Lincoln Day, making every gift even more meaningful.
302 nonprofits registered this year to take part in the 2014 Give To Lincoln Day. The goal is $2.5 million.
“Give To Lincoln Day was an outstanding success last year,” said Barbara Bartle, president of the Lincoln Community Foundation. “Thanks to the generosity of the Lincoln community, the support of our local media and the active participation of 253 nonprofit organizations, this one-day event raised $2.1 million dollars to benefit our nonprofits that help make Lincoln a great place to live. Lincoln really came together as one big family and showed their support for the causes they care about.”
Give To Lincoln Day aims to promote philanthropy in the city. By helping nonprofits raise funds, the daylong event helps them carry out their important work and supplements budgets already stretched to meet current demands. It also allows nonprofits to tell their stories and attract new donors.
