Residents say a complete stranger is to thank after alerting a family to a fire in their home.

Colleen Troutman says just before midnight a stranger knocked on her door at 1915 "J" to tell her smoke was coming from a window in her attic.

Troutman, her husband and their three children and several pets safely escaped the home.

Troutman said the man got on his bike and rode away once they had been alerted.

Fire officials believe the cause of the fire might be electrical, but is still investigation.
