Governor Heineman: No Benefits for Deferred Action Immigrants

Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman announced Friday that he agrees with Arizona's stance in denying state benefits to 'deferred action' immigrants.

Heineman said that a new federal program that shelters Illegal immigrants from deportation will not make them eligible for state services such as driver's licenses in Nebraska.

Heineman, in making the announcement, joined Arizona Governor Jan Brewer in challenging the new federal policy. Brewer issued an executive order barring illegal immigrants from receiving state funds a few days ago.
