The need is always great for donations at Grand Island's transitional housing facility, but even more so during the cold winter months when people seek shelter from chilly temperatures.
The folks at the Grand Island Hospitality Association, made up of 17 local hotel and business owners, came together between Thanksgiving and Christmas to collect blankets, towels, soaps and other necessities that were not used by people staying there throughout the year.
The boxes were delivered to Hope Harbor where worker Rhonda Smallwood said just because the Christmas Holiday is over, the need for donations is not.
"It's very gratifying to have the community think of us in this way at this time, not only at Christmas with gifts, but to also give us the necessities," said Smallwood.
Currently Hope Harbor is in need of the following items:
Cheese, crackers, juice
55 gal. trash bags
tall kitchen trash bags
Zip Lock bags
Saran wrap, tin foil
Personal hygiene products
Avery mailing labels
Paper for printer
