Nebraska Authorities Say Fugitive Killed Himself

JANSEN, Neb.-- At approximately 12:15 p.m on Monday, Officer of the Jefferson county Sheriff’s Office was executing a search warrant at 303 Broad Street in Jansen, NE. The Search warrant was for a man that had an arrest warrant and has been evading arrest for some time.

Officers cleared the lower level of the residence and upon clearing the upper level the man was found in a bedroom closet with a single shotgun. The man had the shotgun to his head, and shot himself.

Emergency medical procedures were performed on the man and he was transported to the Jefferson Community Health Center in Fairbury where he died from the self-inflicted gunshot wound. Law Enforcement did not fire any shots and no Law Enforcement officers were injured.

The Nebraska State Patrol was called to investigate the incident and per state law a grand jury will be convened to investigate the incident as this was a man being taken into Law Enforcement Custody.
