"I have no clue to why she didn't stay at the Mission...." - Pastor Tom, People's City Mission
Lincoln police say a 52-year-old woman and her 10-year-old grandson were found living in filth in a vacant home at 2544 O Street just after 2 a.m. Tuesday.
The woman was cited for child neglect and criminal trespass.
According to officers, they found living conditions at the vacant home "unfit for humans."
Inside the home, which had no electricity or running water, was rotting food, soiled clothing, dirty dishes, candles for lights, etc. The occupants were apparently using a bucket to collect their own waste.
The temperature of the home was reportedly around freezing.
10/11 News also found that the woman and her grandson had been staying at the People's City Mission earlier this year, but for some reason left.
Pastor Tom Barber, Executive Director at the Mission told 10/11 News, "I have no clue to why she didn't stay at the Mission...."
He also says he wishes she would've stayed, considering the conditions of the vacant home.
10/11 is not identifying the woman, to protect the privacy of the child.
