Hundreds of Lincoln and Lancaster County residents brought their household hazardous waste to a collection event on Saturday at Lincoln Industries, where folks could drop off the following items:
CFL (compact fluorescent light) bulbs and tubes
pesticides
paint thinners
stains
polishes and waxes
turpentine
pool cleaning chemicals
flea and tick powders
rodent poison
charcoal starter fluids
mixed or old gasoline
oil-based paint
nail polish and other nail products
items containing mercury, including thermometers
upholstery cleaners, grease removers and brake and power steering fluids
About 55,000 pounds of hazardous material have been safely recycled or properly disposed of at this year's first five collections, an additional 10-15 thousand additional pounds are expected to be collected over the weekend.
The next collection won't be held until October 13th.
