UPDATE: Hastings Police Investigating Stabbing After Family Argument

By  |

The Hastings Police Department says a 17 year old was arrested for stabbing his father in the back following a physical fight between them on Wednesday.

Jacob Kauffman is being charged as an adult for second degree assault and use of a weapon to commit a felony.

Sgt. Steven Murphy says Kauffman stabbed a family member in the back during an argument in the 800 block of Bellevue Avenue.

Kauffman told police his 42-year-old father put him in a headlock, so the boy pulled out a knife and stabbed him. He was treated at Mary Lanning for what Murphy called a non-life threatening injury.

Kauffman is being held at the Adams County Jail.

A hearing is scheduled on Feb. 7 to determine a preliminary hearing.
