Helping Others During the Holiday Season

By  |

Some Lincoln families are spreading holiday cheer by serving meals to those who might not have family or friends to spend the holidays with through Tabitha's Meals on Wheels program.

Tabitha's Erika Balm says those who volunteer to help serve the daily noon meals may be the only people recipients see all day. "Our volunteers definitely serve and fill a big gap in that way by providing companionship, and sharing a little bit of love and the holiday spirit with those people," said Balm.

Dave Scheffler has been helping out with the program for more than two decades. On Sunday, Scheffler brought family members to help deliver meals and preserve a family tradition." It's just the season of giving and its most important to give," said Scheffler who added "I've taken every one of my kids, we've raised four kids and I've taken them all to deliver meals."

Balm adds that Meals on Wheels doubles as a critical safety check for Elders living alone in their homes
