You can now apply for a mountain lion permit for next year. Nebraska Game and Parks has a few tips on how to hunt a mountain lion.
Be prepared to do a lot of walking because mountain lions can travel 10 miles a day. It's best to hunt in colder weather and at dusk or dawn. In terms of clothes, you can wear camo or orange.
"Most hunting will be done in the winter. People need to take safety into consideration. They're not required to wear hunter orange, it's a good idea if there is a lot of people," said Sam Wilson, furbearer/carnivore program manager with NE Game and Parks.
Although archery is allowed, a rifle will give you better aim. Hunting dogs will also increase your chances, but they can only be used at the beginning of the year.
Wilson says lions can also be found in rugged terrain where there is a high density of deer and raccoons. Hunters should also carry predator calls.
