The Central Nebraska Humane Society showcased a new piece of lifesaving equipment Saturday.
It parked its new 16' by 7' trailer outside of Tractor Supply Co., where animal lovers were able to buy and donate items such as pet food and generators. The trailer is part of the Mobile Companion Animal Rescue and Emergency Response System. It will be used to transport equipment and food when rescuing animals from disasters and puppy mills.
"Not only in our area can we respond, but we're also opening the trailer up to mutual aid partners so that if they're several miles or hours away, they have our equipment to help their animals as well," says executive director Laurie Dethloff.
The humane society is working on getting a second vehicle to transport companion animals.
