The look of the Huskers is changing.
The old script logo has been stamped on Husker gear since 1983, but the Nebraska athletic department thought it was time for a change.
For traditional Nebraska fans, the reaction is more 'if it's not broke, don't fix it.'
Others say they're excited about the fresh new look.
Nebraska associate athletic director Michael Stephens thought it was time for a change.
"The old 'N' Huskers logo served us well for 30 years, but we thought it was getting a bit dated," Stephens said.
The logo he is referring to is the Huskers script one. It's a secondary logo, but as Stephens has come to find out, a popular one.
It's replacement is a more modern, simple look. While it's taking some time for people to come around, Stephens wants them to remember it's not the primary mark of the Huskers.
"It is a secondary logo. It is not our primary mark," Stephens said. "Our iron 'N' with nothing through it is our primary 'N' logo."
Husker headquarters has been selling merchandise with the new logo since February. As far as the opinions of the logo, those change too.
"I think it's been about 50/50," said Blaine Braziel, marketing director at Husker Headquarters. "I think a lot of the fans enjoy the old look. It's something they might be used to, but I get a lot of fans that enjoy the new look also. It's a modern look and it's easier to read.
As for Braziel himself…"I do like the new logo," Braziel said. "It's very clean, and it's easy to read."
He does, however, have just one minor issue with it.
"It looks like somebody else's logo out there," Braziel said.
The logos he's referring to are those of Michigan and Mississippi State.
