UPDATE: Ice Jams Cause Flooding in Buffalo County

Ice jams are causing some flooding in south central Buffalo County.

The National Weather Service in Hastings issued a flood warning for the area along the north channel of the Platte River to the north of Kilgore Road and south of Interstate 80.

The river level is rapidly fluctuating due to ice jamming.

Flood Waters flowing though Sweetwater homes, property, Kearney well fields, and the Youth camp, according to the Buffalo County Emergency Management.

Emergency Management Buffalo County/City of Kearney has been putting warnings out since Jan. 24.

The Residents at Sweet Water have been moving out property and animals over the weekend.

Emergency responders have been notified and ready to take action if needed.

Red Cross has been informed and residents can contact the Red Cross for assistance if needed.

Darrin Lewis, Emergency Management Director for Buffalo County, says there about 8 to 10 homes in the the immediate path of the flooding.

Emergency personnel advised residents to evacuate yesterday but at least one resident has decided to stay.
