UPDATE: Second Person Linked to Correction Officer's Death

A second person has been linked to the death of Amanda Baker, the Scotts Bluff County Corrections Officer that was attacked on Feb.14.

On Wednesday, the Scotts Bluff County Attorney’s Office filed charges against 16-year-old Guy Eagle Elk. Elk faces charges of aiding and abetting first degree assault—a Class II Felony. He could serve up to 50 years in prison and is being charged as an adult.

The attack on Baker happened just after 2 a.m. on Feb. 14 at the Scotts Bluff County Detention Center.

A Nebraska court document says 15-year-old Dylan Cardeilhac strangled Baker for more than 2 ½ minutes after he lured her into his cell.

An arrest affidavit filed by a Scotts Bluff County Sheriff's Investigator says security video shows the boy talked Baker into checking something on his cell floor.

The affidavit says he then pounced on Baker from behind and strangled her after she fell to her stomach on the floor.

Authorities say Cardeilhac was being held in detention awaiting trial on the charge of robbery stemming from an incident that occurred on Dec. 3, 2013 in Mitchell, Nebraska.

He appeared in Scotts Bluff County Court Tuesday and faces first degree murder charges.

Amanda Baker’s family released the following statement:

"Amanda Baker was a light in our world that was blown out much too early. At the age of 24, she was a loving mother and a cherished daughter and sister. With a great sense of humor and a smile that took over her whole face, any room would brighten when she entered. She was furthering her education and was working to getting her credentials to become a nurse at the Torrington Correctional Facility. Amanda was trying to make the very best life she could for her and her 6-year-old son. Amanda had a great inner strength, and she will be greatly missed by her family, friends and co-workers. In the words of her son, “She was the greatest mother ever."
