Lincoln County District Court Judge Donald Rowlands makes a decision regarding a Sutherland man who admitted killing a family over 30 years ago.
On Tuesday afternoon, court documents show Simants is ordered to remain at the Lincoln Regional Center at Lincoln, NE.
Court documents say on Oct. 18, 1975 Erwin Simants committed one of the most heinous acts in the history of the State of Nebraska, perhaps exceeded only by the murders of Charles Starkweather who killed eleven people during a two-month murder spree.
Documents say the defendant, who was described as a loner who could not keep a job because of a serious problem with alcohol, took his brother in law's .22-caliber rifle in Sutherland, NE and killed six of his neighbors. All victims were members of the Henry Kellie Family.
