The Buffalo County Sheriff's Office says they're investigating a fatal accident that happened Thursday evening just west of Kearney.

Deputies say a 54 year old rural Kearney man was driving a semi truck north of Highway 30 on Cottonmill Avenue when he pulled off partially onto the shoulder. The man was outside of the truck working on it when it rolled backward and injured him.

He was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital where he died of his injuries. The man's name is not being released yet.

The Sheriff's Office says after the truck rolled over the man, it kept rolling backward down Cottonmill Ave., across Hwy 30, and into the south ditch.

The Kearney Police Department, Kearney Volunteer Fire Department, Nebraska State Patrol, and Buffalo County Attorney's Office assisted the Sheriff's Department.
