Kuts for Katelyn Raises Money for 5-Year Old With Rare Cancer

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- A fundraiser at the Conestoga Mall in Grand Island Sunday raised money for the family of a 5-year-old with a rare form of cancer.

Katelyn Sybrandts was diagnosed with ependymoblastoma, a cancer so rare there are only two other reported cases world-wide.

Sunday hair stylists from Trade Secretes and Cost Cutters gave free hair cuts for at will donations. There were also items up for raffle.

All money raised Sunday goes straight to the Sybrandts family.

"Just trying to help get the proceeds for the family. Anything helps. Even if it's a dollar to $40. It's all going to go to the family help with the travel costs, hotels, anything that we can do to help team Katelyn," said family friend Aaron Sasges who was managing the event.

Trade Secrets Hair Stylist Ashley Niedfelty added, "Elle Salon has donated a basket, Jeffrey's Salon donated some products, and Regis here in the mall also donated. There's over $300 worth of stuff we will be giving away."

The totals from Sunday's fundraiser are still being counted.

If you would like to donate to Team Katelyn you can donate to the account at Home Federal Savings and Loan in Grand Island in Katelyn's name.

Another event for Katelyn coming up is the "Sparkle On, Katelyn Golf Tournament" on July 20 at 1 p.m. at the Centura Hills Golf Club in Cairo.
