Lance's Journal: BRIN Running Series, Feb. 3, 2014

Zach and Heidi Harsin are partners in business...and in life. Together, they own a Lincoln gym and together, they started a running series.

Zach and Heidi were both born and raised in Nebraska. That's why they came up with the name BRIN for their new running series. With a little play on the words, BRIN is an acronym for born and "raced" in Nebraska.

They feel fortunate because they get to do what they love, with who they love. Pounding the pavement together keeps their relationship strong. Heidi says, "I think that because running is such a passion for us it makes it even more special that we are able to go out and do it with somebody we love. It's a great way to spend quality time together."

As is running their "Body Innovations" personal training and bootcamp gym together. The Harsins have been keeping Amy McCurdy active for the past 3 years, "They make you feel not just like a client but a friend."

Three years ago, Zach & Heidi started a charity running event through their gym called Jingle Jog and from there they started a second one called Harvest Moon Hustle.

Those events went so well, Zach says they created the BRIN running series last fall, "As we got more and more into it we kind of decided that this is something we really enjoy doing, we enjoy putting on these events and want to see where it goes from here."

BRIN's first race of 2014 is bound to give new meaning to the term "speed dating". It's a Valentine's-themed 5K called Kicks 'n Kisses. Zach explains, "If you're lucky enough to have a Valentine's date then you'll wear the 'taken' sign and if you happen to be single and looking you can put on that 'single' tag and wear that and hopefully find yourself a Valentine's date."

The Kicks 'n Kisses 5K run will take place the day after Valentine's Day on Saturday, February 15th.
