Carl Thompson is a rare breed indeed. He got into the livestock auction business when he was about 27 years old.
Today, Carl is on the doorstep of his 87th birthday and he's showing no signs of slowing up after nearly 60 years in the ring.
Carl is a ring man, "I just mainly take bids and drive them out of the ring."
Carl started working at the Albion sale barn in the mid 50's. Then he started working here at the Fullerton Livestock Market in 1964.
Carl has spent more than 60 years in the ring and he's been involved in thousands and thousands of livestock auctions and he knows these critters can get ornery, "You gotta watch what you're doin', you bet."
Carl moved away from the entrance to the ring a few years ago, "I used to open the gate, but then a cow kicked the gate into me here about 7 or 8 years ago and ruptured my rotor cuff, so I can't raise my arm too high anymore."
