Saturday morning in Omaha, 500 teams and 4,00 runners will take part in the nation's largest day-long running relay. This is the 6th year for the Market to Market Relay that runs from Omaha's Memorial Park to Lincoln's Haymarket.
They call themselves "The Hitch Hikers." They're a 6-person team that's made up of 2 sisters -- a brother and their spouses. And what makes their story special is that this group rallied together 3 years ago to accomplish something that has completely changed their lives.
Not so long ago, The Hitch Hikers weren't nearly as speedy as they are today. Travis and Melissa together lost 120 pounds. Nicole and Josh together lost 200 pounds.
Melissa Weber-Arnold says "Together we've lost about 350 pounds and it was really our entire family that did it." And they did it by joined together and pushing each other as a team.
Melissa says, "We held each other accountable. We would give each other a hard time when one of us was cheating and then when you're clothes start to be too big and you have to go shopping, it's motivating, expensive, but motivating."
Each member of "The Hitch Hikers" will run 3 or 4 legs of the 78-mile relay. The 500 teams will start in waves in Omaha beginning at 5 am and the first team's will likely hit the finish line in Lincoln's Haymarket at about 4 in the afternoon.
The 21 legs range from 3 to 6 miles a piece and they'll be run mainly on bike trails and gravel roads between Omaha and Lincoln.
