Lance's Journal: "Nebraska Rural Living," April 21, 2014

If you miss the safe, quiet streets, the wide-open sky and the sense of knowing and caring about your neighbor, then I know just the website for you.

"Nebraska Rural Living" is the brainchild of Betty Sayers and her sister Nancy Herhaun.

After growing up in Holdrege, they both went to and graduated from UNL. The promptly left the state and headed for the big city.

After 30 years away from Nebraska, they both decided to retire to 'The Good Life" ...and they are quite happy they did.

Betty says, "We have a world wide audience of sometimes up to 50 thousand a month."

Nebraska Rural Living is in the business of attracting people back to rural Nebraska. Because they know that life in the city isn't sometimes all it's cracked up to be. Nancy explains, "I've lived in Kansas City, Chicago, San Diego and visited just about every major city in the United States. Fortunately, we came to a point where we could retire, so to speak, and leave the worst of the big cities behind, which is the traffic and the noise."

Nancy says she and her sister can now appreciate rural Nebraska more than ever, "It's so nice to be able to come back here and do what we do here and share what there is about rural Nebraska...that's we really enjoy.:

The debut rendition of the Nebraska Rural Living website premiered nearly a decade ago. Betty says, "We want to educate our large audience, our world wide audience, that there's so many different things to do here and so much variety."

Right now, the Nebraska Rural Living website is viewed by more than 50,000 people a month.

And Betty and Nancy also send out out a monthly newsletter that goes out directly to more than 3,000 people.
